01 — Where it started
Lincoln Tech trains welders, auto technicians, HVAC techs and healthcare workers. When I arrived, the whole for-profit education category was under regulatory scrutiny, acquisition costs were rising across the industry, and Lincoln Tech was paying $432 per acquisition. There was no social media function. Twenty-one campuses in 14 states, and nobody owning the channel where prospective students spend their day.
02 — What was really going on
A young person deciding whether to become a welder doesn’t trust a brochure. They want to see the shop, the sparks, and people like them doing the work. That footage was happening every day on 21 campuses. Almost none of it was reaching the feeds where prospects were making up their minds.
03 — What I did
- 01
Built the function from zero. A master playbook covering posting rules, compliance guardrails and a shared creative library, so campuses could move fast without creating regulatory risk.
- 02
Turned campus staff into a content team. Trained campus office assistants as social managers, 15 in all, and kept them on strategy with monthly planning calls.
- 03
Showed the real thing. Content built on real students, real shop floors and real career outcomes. Live-streamed classes and Snapchat geofilters became the top organic performers.
- 04
Standardized what worked. One campaign structure, one creative testing method and one reporting format across every market, so a win on one campus could roll out to the rest.
04 — The call that mattered
Decentralize the content, centralize the rules. Headquarters can’t film 21 shop floors. Campus staff can, if they have a playbook, a compliance guardrail and a monthly call. That is how one playbook covered 21 campuses.
05 — What changed
- Cost per acquisition fell from $432 to $38, a 91% reduction.
- Website traffic grew 34%.
- YouTube content passed 4.8 million views.
- One $38.55 Snapchat geofilter, branded for the Power 105.1 Powerhouse concert in Newark and live for a single evening, drew 246.5K views and 3.5K uses. Meeting prospects at a concert beat waiting for them at a campus event.
06 — What I'd tell you
Your best marketing content is probably already happening inside your business. The job is building a system that captures it, keeps it compliant and gets it in front of the right people.
