The Story of JMR

This is how the story goes...

In 2004, a young dreamer walked into an Atlanta radio station as a promotion coordinator, armed with grit, charm, and a vision larger than any broadcast signal. What began as a street team hustle quickly evolved into something more: a passion for connection, creativity, and cultural influence.

James didn’t just plan events; he orchestrated moments. Moments that bridged global brands with real people. That fire? It caught quickly. Within a few short years, he was no longer behind the scenes. He was the voice on the mic, the leader behind the campaigns, and eventually the music director calling the shots.

Then The Hustle Started

When James saw what others didn’t, as the digital revolution gained momentum in 2009, he pivoted with precision, leveraging his network, his vision, and his instincts to become Marketing Director for one of the most respected brands in the country: Chick-fil-A. It was more than a title—it was proof that adaptability is the real superpower.

Today, James is a devoted husband, a proud father, a business owner, and a relentless student of life. His core values? Emotional intelligence. Spiritual growth. Peak performance. And the unapologetic pursuit of excellence.

His mission? To turn every brand he touches into a legacy—and every challenge into an opportunity.

So, scroll with him. From radio to Wall Street and beyond, James isn’t just telling a story.

He’s building an empire.

Leadership & Collaboration

Effective marketing leadership requires translating business objectives into marketing strategy, then translating marketing performance into business language that executives understand and trust. I've operated successfully at multiple organizational levels—from managing teams and agencies to presenting strategy directly to ownership and boards.

  • Working with Executive Leadership

I approach executive collaboration by establishing clear accountability for marketing's contribution to business outcomes. This means presenting strategy in terms of revenue impact, customer economics, and competitive positioning rather than marketing tactics.

I proactively surface trade-offs (growth vs. profitability, brand vs. performance, short-term vs. long-term) and provide data-driven recommendations while acknowledging uncertainty. My goal is to be a trusted strategic partner who helps leadership make informed decisions, not a functional executor waiting for direction.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment

Marketing effectiveness depends on tight integration with sales, products, and operations. I've built systematic handoff processes between marketing and sales (lead scoring, qualification criteria, SLA agreements), collaborated with product teams on go-to-market strategy and positioning, and worked with operations to ensure marketing promises align with delivery capabilities.

Success requires understanding how other functions measure performance and designing marketing initiatives that support their objectives, not just marketing's.

  • Team Development & Agency Management

I've built internal teams from zero, managed external agencies, and operated as a solo consultant depending on business needs. My approach prioritizes clear expectations, structured decision-making authority, and performance accountability.

I develop talent by giving team members ownership of specific outcomes (not just tasks), providing context on how their work connects to business results, and creating environments where experimentation is encouraged but performance is measured. When managing agencies, I establish precise scopes of work, define success metrics up front, and maintain regular performance reviews that directly inform contract renewal decisions.

Good decisions start there!
